Two apprehended shortly after robbery
Two men were arrested at the Eastgate shopping centre parking lot - minutes after a robbery at Young Avenue in Bedfordview on Tuesday, August 3 at 2:30pm.
Bedfordview SAPS communications officer, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi said that the woman was very busy in her kitchen when she noticed three men approaching her from other rooms.
"One took the knife she was using from her and pointed it at her. They demanded the safe's key., when she told them she did not have it, they demanded money. She gave the R1700. They then took her shoes, radio and duvet cover and ties her up," he said. Sgt. Nhlabathi said that after the men left, the woman untied herself.
She then went to Eastgate Shopping Mall. "While at the parking lot she saw them and asked for help from security.
Security at the shopping centre chased and caught the two of the men and one escaped, he said.
He added that a portion of the money was recovered from the two men.
