Incident number #495 details:
20 kids injured in minibus taxi accident
The female driver of a school patrol minibus taxi that crashed this morning resulting in 20 children being seriously injured has been arrested for drunk driving.
The woman had, according to reports, picked up 20 children aged between six and 13 from around the Tembisa area and was on her way to drop them off at the Edleen, Cresslawn and Global primary schools in Kempton Park when she lost control and rolled the taxi on CR Swart Road at about 7.30am.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident, which took place at the Zuurfontein split opposite a Pick 'n Pay.
One child was airlifted to hospital with a skull fracture, and the others were taken to various hospitals in the area by ambulance. Investigators on the scene asked the 54-year-old driver to take a breathalyser test and arrested her on the spot when she registered over the legal limit. She was taken to the Kempton Park police cells and will appear in court soon.
